Map and Directions to Fellside Studios

How to find us

Fellside Studios are set right in the heart of the Lake District, yet really quick and easy to get to.

Beautifully located in the quiet and peaceful Troutbeck valley, we are only a few minutes' drive from both Windermere or Ambleside town centres.

Or on foot, there are several alternative routes using footpaths and bridleways which will take you to Windermere or Ambleside in just under an hour.

Please give us a call if you need any help finding us, or if you'd like us to collect you from Windermere Station.

IMPORTANT: If you've got a gps system, please follow our directions for the last few miles, as many gps systems wrongly locate our postcode at Troutbeck Bridge, which is about 3 miles south west of Troutbeck!

Directions by road from M6 Junction 36 (about 30 minutes)

• Follow the A591 west for about 15 miles, and stay on A591 through Windermere.
• At the mini-roundabout (a painted circle in the road), turn right onto the A592, signposted to ‘Patterdale and Kirkstone Pass’.
• After 3 miles on the A592, immediately after a stone bridge, but before Jesus Church, turn left into a narrow lane signposted ‘Troutbeck 1/4 mile’.

• After about 250 yards, Fellside is the first building on the right – watch out for our geese, and then the sign on the wall next to our gate.

Directions by road from M6 Junction 40 (about 45 minutes)

• Follow the A66 west for about 1 mile to a large roundabout.
• Take the A592 exit signposted to ‘Ullswater’.
• Stay on A592, ignoring signs to the wrong ‘Troutbeck’ (there are two Troutbecks in Cumbria!)
• Continue about 22 miles on the A592, alongside the shore of Ullswater, crossing over the 1500 foot Kirkstone Pass, and past the Queen's Head Inn in Troutbeck.
• Immediately after Jesus Church, turn right into a narrow lane signposted ‘Troutbeck’.
• After about 250 yards, Fellside is the first building on the right – watch out for our geese, and then the sign on the wall next to our gate.

Directions by rail

• There are regular Virgin Rail services direct from London Euston, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh to Oxenholme, which is 1 mile from Kendal, and about 15 miles from Troutbeck.
• There are connecting Transpennine Express rail services from Oxenholme to Windermere.
• There is also a Transpennine Express rail service direct from Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly to Windermere.

Directions by coach service

• There are direct National Express coach services to Windermere Rail Station from London, Manchester and several other UK cities.

Directions by taxi from Windermere Station

• There is a taxi rank, and a public telephone box, outside Windermere Rail Station.
• Fellside Studios are just 3 miles from Windermere.
• If you have any problem, please call us on 015394 34000, and we can collect you.

Directions on foot from Windermere Station (about 75 minutes)

• It's a bit over an hour's walk from Windermere Rail Station to Fellside Studios.
• It's very beautiful, but mainly uphill, so probably not really an option when you've just arrived with bags, and absolutely not recommended after dark!
• Turn left out of Windermere Rail Station, walk 100 yards and cross the road to the NatWest Bank, then cross the main road to a large white sign opposite the bank saying 'Footpath to Orrest Head'.

You can't miss this sign opposite the NatWest Bank – but watch out for the second signpost after 20 yards

• Follow this footpath uphill for about 20 yards, and at another signpost take the left footpath towards ' A592 Troutbeck Rd'.
• Keep to this footpath, crossing over several small driveways, and ignoring two footpaths which branch off to the right towards Orrest Head.
• After about 3/4 mile, at a big iron gate, turn right onto the A592.
• Follow the A592 uphill for about 2 miles, until immediately after a stone bridge, and before Jesus Church, turn left into a narrow lane signposted ‘Troutbeck 1/4 mile’.
• After about 250 yards, Fellside is the first building on the right – watch out for our geese, and then the sign on the wall next to our gate.

Directions on bicycle from Windermere Station (about 25 minutes)

• The most direct cycle route to Fellside from Windermere Station is via the A591 and A592. However there’s a slightly longer but much quieter route as follows:
• From Windermere Station turn right onto the A591 (towards Kendal), walking on the pavement for about 100 yards, until the start of the cycle lane.
• After about 1/2 mile on the A591 cycle lane, turn left into a narrow lane (towards Common Farm).
• Follow this lane for about 1 mile, past Common Farm, straight across the first crossroads, and then turn left at the T-junction (Moore Howe Lane).
• Follow Moore Howe Lane for about 1 mile, keeping right at the first Y-junction, and then turn right onto the A592 at the foot of a steep hill.
• Follow the A592 for about 1/2 mile, until immediately after a stone bridge, but before Jesus Church, turn left into a narrow lane signposted ‘Troutbeck 1/4 mile’.
• After about 250 yards, Fellside is the first building on the right – watch out for our geese, and then the sign on the wall next to our gate.
